Wine tasting at AZ Hops & Vines

We recently took a trip to the Sonoita-Elgin area in Southern Arizona for winetasting and sightseeing. Since we got back home, lots people have been asking about our trip and the wineries, so we wanted to share some of favorites with you here.

AZ Hops & Vines was one of our absolute favorites.  Their sign says they are not your average winery and it’s true!

We enjoyed this winery so much, we stopped in a couple times during our trip. If it’s quirky and fun you are looking for, make sure to stop by and visit them.

You can’t miss them on your wine tour. Their big sign along Highway 82 draws you in.

And from the moment you walk through the door, you just know it will be an interesting experience.

This place is owned and operated by two sisters who know how to make wine tasting fun. You can see it in everything they do from their colorfully decorated tasting room to the playful nature of their labels. This vibrant lotus flower featured on their Namaste, a 2014 New Mexico Chardonnay, was designed by tasting room talent and local artista Rachel Ward.

As one local cowboy said “any winery with a wine called the Fluffer has got to be a fun place!” It’s sure to keep the party going, or leave you wondering why you woke up in a strange place.

They pair their wines with everyday snacks like potato chips, Cheetos and these twisty little Fritos that I know can’t possibly be good for me, but are really quite delicious.

And for those moments when you have to break the seal, it’s always nice to have a little bit of inspiration.

You’ll find funky artwork and inspirational quotes all over the place, even next to the toilet

They’re not confined to the restroom either. You’ll find these cute little inspirational quotes scattered around their tasting room, their property, and even in their product merchandising.

I love all their funky artwork, quirky pets, and fun decorations scattered throughout their property. It combines rich southern Arizona culture with an eccentric boho meets hipster kind of vibe.

And I love that they remind me that no matter how Italian I am my eyebrows will always look better than Fridas.

Not only does this winery have some great wines for tasting, they also host several fun events throughout the year.

Recently, they hosted the Drag Races to promote their Drag Queen, a 2015 Chenin Blanc with Cascade & Mosaic Hops. Miss Lark Bahar on wordpress wrote an interesting review of the event. or watch the video of another one biting the dust on their facebook page.

They also just hosted their Bacchanal Festival which combined fun wine, beer and food pairings with live music from bands like the Sugar Theives.

Some of the pairings included The Fix’s lobster mac & cheese paired with their 2014 Estate Cabernet Sauvingnon Christian, and Nadine’s bakery triple chocolate cheesecake paired with Fluffer.

Upcoming events include Movies Wine & Chill, and their Bad Decisions Campout.

For more information you can visit their website at azhopsandvines.com or like them on Facebook. But the best way to get to know what is going on, is to just stop in and see them!
